Science

At Longmeadow we follow Kapow's Science curriculum. We aim to equip our children with the knowledge and skills to navigate our world and to understand and explore further the nature and technology of that world. Opportunities to learn through our local environment are exploited throughout the curriculum. (Website Statement)

Our curriculum aims to develop a sense of curiosity and excitement about the natural world and understanding how the scientific community contributes to our past, present and future world.

Our science curriculum is inclusive and uses our local environment to enable all pupils to experience the joy of science. This enables all pupils to make meaningful links between their science learning and their everyday lives.

At Longmeadow, our science curriculum has the following key strands:

  1. Scientific knowledge and understanding of:

  • Biology- living organisms and vital processes

  • Chemistry- matter and its properties

  • Physics- how the world we live in “works”

  1. Working scientifically- processes and methods of science to answer questions about the world around us.

  1. Science in action- uses and implications of science in the past, present and future.
